Special Japan Exhibition Projects: Past, Present, and Future

For the Japan exhibition, new projects have been designed to fit the space of the Tokyo Opera City Gallery. In gallery 2, where the floor is covered with cushions woven from wistaria vines, there is a five-meter-high grass tower. It is a mock-up of a 20-meter tower to be installed in a residential area being developed in Shiga prefecture. It represents the relationship between humankind and architecture that began with the act of piling up dirt. The model Tokyo Plan 2107 is 9 meters long. It depicts Tokyo after it has sunk in the ocean due to the effects of global warming and clearly reveals Fujimori's views of architecture and the city. The entire exhibition space reflects Fujimori's way of thinking, continually questioning the relationship between human beings and architecture, its history and its future.
