Biography

ASADA Hiroshi
1931 Born in Kyoto City. Father Asada Benji and brother Asada Takashi are both nihonga painters.
1954 First selected for the Shinseisaku Association exhibition.
1967 Receives Kyoten (Kyoto Exhibition) Suda Prize. Received Shinseisaku Association exhibition prize. Nominated for membership the following year.
1970 Receives Kyoten Expo Prize.
1971 Moves to Paris. In addition to oil painting, studies copperplate printmaking at Johnny Friedlaender’s studio.
1974 Invited exhibitor at the 6th International Festival of Painting, Cagnes-sur-Mer winning international prize.
1975 Receives Yasui Award Exhibition excellence award.
1977 Nominated as a member of the Salon d’Automne. Receives first class award in copperplate printmaking section of the Second Cannes International Printmaking Biennale.
1979 Nominated as a member of the Salon des Beaux Arts de la Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts.
1981 Unwell. Hospitalised for tests.
1982 Returns to Japan, living in Kyoto again.
1983 Becomes professor at Kyoto City University of Arts (until 1985).
1989 Receives the 2nd Kyoto Art and Culture Award.
1995 Receives Kyoto Prefectural Culture Award's Distinguished Service Prize. Receives 13th Miyamoto Saburo Memorial Award, holding award exhibition in Tokyo and Kyoto. Selected as a Kyoto City Person of Cultural Merit.
1997 Takes his own life in his studio (age sixty-five).
