Ninagawa’s latest series, Noir is shown in public for the first time in this exhibition. Prints featuring subjects such as flowers, figures, and scenes are presented as prints of varying sizes in an installation employing four wall surfaces. The themes may be the same as earlier series, but as implied by the French word for “black” as the title for the series, these works all convey a different sense of depth from the dreamy but vivid photographs of Ninagawa’s earlier series.
“Darkness quietly emanates into dazzling light. I feel a slight sense of ecstasy whenever I am able to capture this darkness.”
