Born in Asahikawa, Hokkaido. Moves to Tokyo with his family the following year. |
1923: |
Enters Waseda Senior High School, met Takamura Kotaro. |
1927: |
Inspired by Vincent van Gogh works seen with Takamura, decides to become a painter. |
1928: |
Taken on as a student by Kawashima Riichiro on Takamura’s introduction. |
1933: |
Becomes close friends with Matsumoto Shunsuke and Tsuruoka Masao. |
1937: |
Becomes an associate member of Jiyu Bijutsu Kyokai on its establishment, and is nominated for full membership the following year. |
1946: |
Participates as a committee member in the founding of Nihon Bijutsukai |
1947:

Exhibits in the first Bijutsu Dantai Rengo exhibition and the first Japan Independent Exhibition (organised by Nihon Bijutsukai). |
1953:

Becomes founding member of the Japan branch of the International Art Club. |
1956

Exhibits in Exposition Internationale de l'Art Actuel. |
1957

Becomes a lecturer at Bunka Fashion College (until March 1981). |

Receives Medal of Honour (Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon). Also a recipient in 1976, 1981, 1983, and 1985). |
1974

Death of second son Fumio in a fall from a ferry in the Seto Inland Sea. First son Norio also dies the following year. |
